How to Perform Keyword Research Analysis


After intensive keyword research, you must perform keyword research analysis to even expand your Master List more. You can use the Google Adwords and webmaster keyword research tools to get more combination of keywords to add to your list.

You must then perform a comprehensive competitive analysis by analyzing the strength of your competitor's keywords to get ideas of some words you might have missed.

To do intensive keyword research analysis on your competitors, you must investigate the following:

  • Is the keyword used in the anchor text linking back and how many back-links are pointing to the top 10 sites?
  • How many of the top 10 sites have the keyword in the title tag? (You can click on “View” in your Internet browser and then click on source or page source)
  • Do the top 10 sites all have the keyword in their Meta, description and keyword tags? (You can click on “View” in your Internet browser and then click on source)
  • Do the top 10 sites have the keyword in a header tag of the body?
  • Does the top 10 competing sites bold or italicize the keyword within the body text?
  • Does the top 10 use the keyword in the first and last 90 words of the body text?
  • Are people spending money in that market? Use Google to determine the number of pay-per-click advertisers there. As show below...

By investigating these questions, you will have a true understanding of your market and know if it is too competitive or it is a great niche to pursue.

As you can see doing this manually is an exhaustive and time consuming process. Researching for the top 10 sites for all the keywords relevant to your site concept can a daunting task.
